Ville (Hemanni) Valo,Lily Lazer(aka Daniel Lioneye),Mige Amour,Juhana
and Melasniemi formed HIM in the mid 199o's.Without having their own discography, they were doing covers of their favorite
songs,Kiss,Black Sabbath,Depeche Mode,Motorhead as well as various Finnish artists were some of their idols.Their first EP
is"666 ways to love prologue"(1996-1997).Among its four tracks ther's a wilder version of Chris Isaak's"Wicked game"that made
HIM known to Germany and to most of the Scandinavian countries. The mysterious woman on the EP's front cover made no impression
then. Not until they became famous and loads of girls started dreaming of Ville Valo, did HIM fans discover that she was
his mother?Their debut complete albumis"Greatest lovesongs vol.666"(1997).Another innovative cover version is included;this
time Blue Oyster Cult's"Don't fear the Reaper",actually a debut sang by Ville Valo and his childhood friend&girlfriend
at that time(?)Sanna June-Hyde.Scandinavia worshiped their talent and they climbed the charts, reaching even number
1 most of the times.songs like"When love and death embrace"and"For you"are everlasting Hymns.However,HIM hadn't reached their
goal yet. They were well-known to Nothern Europe but they knew they could do more than that.Next target:Europe on the whole.HIM
faced a couple of problems before and during recording"Razorblade Romance"(1999-2000),their second album, which was a
hit collection.Annto Melasniemi left since being in the band was too much of work for him and Jussi Salminen(aka Juska or
Zoltan Pluto replaced him.Moths later,Juhana Rantala also quitted the band due to family problems and Mikka Karppinen(aka Gas
Lipstick)Also Jani Puuriten(aka Emerson Burton)joined since Zoltan Pluto left the band to concentrate on his studies. On
the other hand,HIM was unpleased with Razorblade Romance's prodution so they left behind their producer,Pauli Saastamoinen, and
Finnvox studios, choosing John Fryer(who had cooperated with bands such as Depehe Mode,Fields O The Nephilim,White Zombie,Nine
Inch Nails etc.)and Rockfield studios in whales. The album's immense success proved their instinct right."Join Me",Right Here
In My Arms","Poison Girl","Wicked Game"and"Gone With The Sin"were some of the songs that flooded the European charts and remained
on top for weeks."Join Me"their first single ,was the soundtrack in Roland Emmerich's movie "The 13th Floor"and
the one with which they became widely known to Greece, yet remains our national HIM anthem."Right Here In My Arms"just
confirmed what we suspected...HIM had come to stay in our lives."Wicked Game"was recorded,HIM's fame was growing and "Razorblade
Romance"was released in 2 different versions. The second one included"Your Sweet six six six"and "Wicked Game",2 songs
previously known to those who had their first album but who had to be available to their new fans as well."Deep
Shadows And Brilliant Highlights",their third album, was released a the end of August 2001."Pretending",their first single
came out on June 2001,2 moths before the album. From this moment on, HIM tried to establish themselves in the UK.They
even toured in Britain for the first time to promote it.At the end of 2001 HIM took a big break to rest and
compose songs for their fourth album. In the interium,Universal USA in cooperation with a local chain of record stores
released "Join Me"in a couple of areas only in the United States and "Razorblade Romance"followed.Having managed to enter
the Top20 of the American dance charts the previous summer,a dance remix of"Join Me"was enough to influence Universal USA's
decion to undertake HIM.Invitable drawback occured.Another band,American this time, with the name HIM was refusing to
allow them to release their material under this name.To the end, they said"if it's on their hands,Finnish HIM's unacceptable
music never reach the US".Therefore HIM had to adopt a new name just for the USA,so they chose the name "HER"as a gimmick
and a solution of necessity."Join Me"promo and "Razorblade Romance"were released under this name.Months later, American
HIM got a significant amount of money to permit our Finns to use their name.Money wasn't their pupose from the beginning
but they couldn't enter European music market, because Finnish HIM had the intellutual oenership of this name there
just like them in the USA.They took remuneration and our Finns were free to make plans for a future career on the other
side of the Atlantic Ocean. At the same time Ville Valo met Bam Margera, the star of Jakass Show, and their friendship launched
HIM's reputation both in the United States and the United Kingdom. Thanks to Bam HIM's music attracted people's undivided
attention.Furthermore,HIM released a single collection gathering all their rare-to-find CD singles in card sleeve
format.HIM's biography "Gone With The Sin"is published, unfortunately only in Finnish written by Juhana Juntunen,a
pertinent Finnish journalist and Ville Valo's old friend.Time after time,HIM became more and more popular in the UK.Their
gigs were often sold-out,yet their audience wasn't what they expected it to be;the majority consisted
of Margera's fans, curious about the phenomenon HIM and so forth.Lily's girlfriend,Mnna, gave birth to their first child,a baby
girl, and rumours he may leave the band were heard.Luckily, this never happened."Love Metal"(2003),their fourth album and the
last one under BMG Finnlan's label,is return to their homeland's studios and a way to prove that they were
alive and kicking.First single:The Funeral Of Hearts",was out a month before the album and second:"Buried Alive By Love".BABL
videoclip was shot first(by Bam Margera)and for the first time a renowned actress(Juliette Lewis)took part in a HIM
clip."The Funeral Of Hearts"was shot in Lapland and remineded of"Join Me"for it's frozen background.HIM gave a series of promotional
gigs, the greatest of which ,was in Grosse Freiheit where they played for the first and last time every song of "Love
Metal"."The Sacrament"was Margera's second clip and HIM'S thied single from this album. While everyone expected HIM to renew their
contract with BMG Finland, they announced that they are open to proposals from other record labels too, looking for one
to support them to their dreams and needs.By the end of 2003 HIM have already signed a contract with Universal USA and released
Razorblade Romance under their real name in the US.2004 brought them a successful mini tour in the US,the UK and
a few other Euoropean countries(while an extended one is to follow in October)and newly-sighned yet much promising international
contrct with Sire RECORDS,Warner's subsidiary. What's in their future? It's their new album coming out in summer 2005.Stay
tuned...
